How We Serve

Food Bank

Our church is involved in the Food Bank Distribution for the Mt. Pleasant area.  Once a month (normally the last Tuesday of the month with the exception of November and December), our church helps with the local food bank. The food is dropped off for distribution at the Mt. Pleasant Church of God. Volunteers from the Mt. Pleasant area do all the work. Our church volunteers take the food to three senior centers in Mt. Pleasant and deliver it to the apartments of those senior citizens who are unable to make it to the Church of God to pick their food up. The only way we can do this ministry is with the help of volunteers from our church.  If you would like to help deliver food, contact the church office. Sue Ann Herd is the coordinator for the Food Bank ministry.

Little Library

Inspired by similar acts of kindness, Deb Fritzley started this ministry as a way to quietly spread the word of Jesus into our community. Outside the front steps you will see a small red box mounted on the wall of the church full of christian literature. Please consider making a donation to help spread the good news of our Lord with those outside our walls.

Because We Care

This mission team  is sponsored by UMC of Mt Pleasant. Projects have included new roofs, new ramps, rebuilding the inside of homes devastated by flood waters, plastering, painting, landscaping, insulating, electrical, and plumbing installation. This group ranging in age from the 20’s to the 70’s, and includes male and female members, is willing to do whatever is needed within the gifts of the group. The Because We Care team is always open to new members, and will welcome you and your gifts. Don’t worry that you cannot hammer, saw, plumb or do electrical work; there is always plenty of work for those willing to serve the Lord. The team members extend your gratitude for their work and service to the Lord. Your appreciation and support both spiritually and financially are always welcome. If you are interested in joining the team, please contact Bryon Jackson or the office @ (724) 547-2288

Lap Blankets/Prayer shawls

We are reaching out to the shut-in members of our congregation by presenting them with a lap blanket (36″x36″) made by a church member. These lap blankets may be quilted, crocheted, or knitted. When complete, the blanket will be dedicated during the worship service and then delivered by one of our “shut-in” visitors. When needed we also crochet shawls blessed by all members of the congregation and given to those facing a difficult trial. If you work with textiles and are interested helping with this service please contact the office @ (724) 547-2288

World Communion Sunday

In 1933, a Pittsburgh pastor, Hugh Thompson Kerr, had a unique idea. What if churches all around the world celebrated Holy Communion on the same Sunday? He contacted leaders of various denominations worldwide. His idea was so well received the Christians around the world now celebrate the Sacrament on the first Sunday in October.

“Because We Care” Team

The “Because We Care” team is a group of church members who visit our members and friends who cannot make it to church, In addition to these visits, we also organize “card showers” for these members around the holidays. If you are interested in joining this team, please contact Deb Fritzley.
